Comments: I received a Phalaenopsis orchid as a memorial gift remembering my father who loved orchids of any variety. I'd like to know how to keep it alive and care for it so it keeps blooming for a long time.
Comments: Hi, thanks for the site, i love all the photos of phal flowers in one spot. Has given me some motivation to grow the collection.
Admin reply: Thanks for the kind comments. I hope to see pictures from your collection later!

Comments: I have a phal amboinensis that I bought 3 or more years ago at a auction held by the Delaware Orchid Society. The orchid was in bloom when I purchased it so I knew how unusual it was but I didn't know that the flower spike should not be cut back when it is finished blooming. Fortunately, I just watched it after the last flower dropped and the spike didn't turn brown so I left it alone. Soon, I noticed that it had begun to grow again and it has bloomed 2 or 3 times again since I bought it. Just recently, I noticed a new spike coming from the base of the plant and several weeks later, I noticed a second new spike. The second spike now has a bud on it and I can't wait to see if more than 1 of the spikes will bloom at the same time!! I am so addicted!!
Admin reply: Great you didn't cut the spike. Many Phals. species are blooming for years on a spike. Don't cut it unless you want the plant to get stronger.
Congratulations for growing your amboinensis so well.

Comments: Very informative. I have a few phal. I am trying to collect species which are native here. Also i have slipper orchids, helmet orchid, jewel orchid. Im still in the process of collecting as the mentioned species are becoming rare in their natural habitat. Enjoyed your website. Keep it up.
Admin reply: It's great when people are doing the same in your country. As you said the Phalaenopsis species, and of course many other genera, are becoming rare in their natural habitat. The more people are growing these species in their native places then there is more chance to have a pod set and then seeds going back in the nearby jungle...
